Founded in 1985 by Ann Demeulemeester, a Belgian fashion designer with husband Patrick Robyn.
She is one of the Antwerp Six in the fashion industry.
(Antwerp Six; who graduated from Antwerp's Royal Academy of Fine Arts between 1980–81.
Members are Dries Van Noten, Walter Van Beirendonck, Dirk Van Saene, Dirk Bikkembergs, Marina Yee)
She was influenced by gothic, punk, and Japanese cult styles.
She opened her own shop in Antwerp in 1999, and her collections are now sold in over 30 countries worldwide.
